The Shepherd’s Center of Richmond, a nonprofit organization that encourages
older adults to remain active and engaged, announces its fall schedule of in-person and online
courses and lunch talks offered through their lifelong learning program, Open University.
The fall session of Open University offers a wide variety of topics in history, science, literature,
foreign languages, arts, and current events, as well as special interest courses like memoir
writing, downsizing, and iPhone instruction.
Open University meets southside on Mondays; in the Willow Lawn area on Tuesdays, and
northside on Thursdays. It begins Monday, September 22 and concludes Friday, November 14.
Tuition is $55 for members of The Shepherd’s Center and $85 for non-members. Membership is
only $25 for one year. Lunch talks, available both in-person and via Zoom, are free with
membership.
Established in 1984, Open University continues to be the longest-running and least expensive
lifelong learning program for seniors in RVA. Just One Open University Tuition Payment
Gives Students Access to All Courses and Lunch Talks in the Session. Registration for
individual courses is not necessary. Students simply pay tuition, choose what they want to attend,
and show up! Volunteers greet them and direct them to their classroom.
